Happy New Year!

Whether it be losing those extra few pounds, eating healthier, or having a more positive outlook on life, New Year resolutions always seem to be at the forefront of our minds each and every year. Unfortunately as the days and months pass, these resolutions slowly slip onto the backburner, and before you know it, another year has come and gone. Let’s not let another year pass us by! Here are a few time-tested tips to get the ball rolling.

1. Set Realistic Goals. The simplest way to keeping a resolution is to make your goal attainable. Setting too lofty or unrealistic goals is a sure-fire way for disappointment. For example, instead of saying ‘I’m never going to eat junk food ever again’, limit the amount of junk food you will allow yourself to consume. Perhaps buy one bag of chips, which you are allowed to consume over a period of time, after which you forbid yourself from purchasing anymore.

2. Do a little bit every day. If your goal, for example, was to lose 20 pounds this year, why not decide to take the stairs up to work instead of the elevator, even on your “off/no gym” days? This way, your goal will always be fresh in your head and you will be mindful in keeping on top of your resolutions.

3. Have a reliable support person. Remember in grade school when your parents would ‘nag’ you every night about your homework? Or the time when your hockey coach would make you practice a play every practice until it was perfect? Although we remembered how aggrevating this could be, it was for the best. Having someone watch over our progress help to remind us of our goals, since we all know, sometimes we are our worst enemies! Tip: Choose this person wisely; sometimes this person can be more of a detriment than helpful!

If our office can be of any help, or if any of your resolutions involve dental concerns, such as whiter teeth, or replacing that missing space so your chewing improves, or if you’ve always thought about straighter teeth but just never got around to it, don’t hesitate to ask! BEST WISHES!
