Dental Bone Grafting

Sufficient bone volume, both in height and in width is required for functional and cosmetic success before surgically placing a dental implant into the site. Bone can resorb or become deficient after infection/disease, from denture pressure applied, from a traumatic extraction, or simply from natural bone resorption process after a tooth is removed. When the bone is lacking, a dental bone grafting procedure is required. In our practice at Yonge and Lawrence, our North York dental bone grafting doctors provide this procedure prior to dental implant therapy.

Different types of dental bone grafting are indicated, depending on the size and location of bone augmentation required. These include sinus grafting (direct or indirect), block bone grafting, particulate grafting, and socket grafting. Most dental bone grafting procedures are minor and can be performed in the office under local anesthesia and sedation. Dental Bone grafting is a routine and highly predictable procedure. Down time after surgery is minimal and can vary between 2 to 4 days depending on the size of the graft and the donor site.

Different bone donor types are available, including the patient’s own bone, donor bone, or synthetic bone. Contact our North York dental bone grafting doctor to discuss the best options for your scenario.
